We, netabarox, usually work at a production company to make sets for TV programs or theater performances.
Last year, we were very impressed with the performances on the stage which we created. We also ran workshops through which we could rediscover the value of our own production work. Continuing from last year, we hope our work will not only give people joy, but will encourage people to enjoy it through interaction.

He has based himself in Tokyo since graduating from Kyoto City University of Arts. Besides creating installations with gardens and shrines as his subject, he creates and exhibits sculptures around the theme of the sensation of the earth.

ジェイミ・ハンフリーズ Jaime Humphreys

The artist works with a wide range of materials to create installations exploring specific spaces and surfaces through the drawing of lines.
He leads an ongoing art workshop for children at Momoshi Elementary School in Zempukuji, and is involved in a number of community projects.

池田 哲 Satoshi Ikeda

After finishing his postgraduate studies in music, Ikeda based himself in the UK to create compositions and perform musical work. Having doubts about the relationship between society and avante garde music, since returning to Japan his activities came to a halt. Still without a resolution to these doubts, he has commenced making work again in recent years. While utilizing methodology from the perspective of microtone, timbre, spectra, and extended technique, he is searching for new methods of expression.

Chalk Line Project

Inspired by aerial photos commemorating the school foundation day (teachers and children participate in an aerial photo), the children of Momoshi will collaborate to make a video in the school playground. This video, which will include a soundtrack made through a collaboration between musician Satoshi Ikeda and the children, will be shown at the Momoshi West gate on the days below. As Momoshi Elementary School draws near to its eightieth birthday in 2012, it is hoped this project will in turn inspire new forms of creativity.

"Suzunari Nights" / 2008

川上 和歌子　Wakako Kawakami

"Human forms" without heads, expressionless dolls with bobbed hair modeled on the artist, and gigantic parakeets; These are some of the forms Kawakami's fabric-based installations have taken.
Making 100, 1000, an infinite number of the same item and placing them around her, Kawakami aims to create her very own "blank" space.

SAKURA-heights

A meaningless structure sits on a hill in the park.
It is on this site I made an apartment for giant parakeets.
This year, I will create a “SAKURA-heights” using cherry blossom so cherished by Japanese. While giving special thought to the sakura which blossomed in the spring of this year, I will earnestly and accurately try to create sakura which doesn’t whither, whose blossoms are evenly spread and do not fall, and so which grows to an enormous size, making them blossom in abundance around this dull structure.

Primarily using plaster and paraffin, my method involves instantaneously and irreversibly connecting together fragments, the accumulative act of which gives form to the artwork.

Floating on the Cycle of All Creation

The geographical shape of the Musahino delta's edge still remains in Zempukuji Park. In the middle of research into the phenomenon of this land formation, the earth shook from an M9 earthquake. While humans see it as a threat, this is nothing more than a natural phenomenon repeating in a grand cycle, and humans are but living creatures existing for a fraction of time on the surface. Standing up from the devastation, let's try to live flexibly as we accompany universal creation.

“Reading the wind”

Visualizing an axis line linking Zempukuji Park and Momoshi Elementary School, the work is situated in two locations, the space high between trees in the park and the school west gate. The artist here attempts to entangle this axis line and the skyward “gaze” of community members and school children, endeavouring to read the signs in the “wind” which the eye cannot capture, and which flows in the expansive space beyond this “gaze”.

The Memory of Plants in Zempukuji Park – All Green is Connected –

・The Light, Color, and Sound of Plants (artwork)
・Plant Viewing in Zempukuji Park (social engagement activity)

Taking the memory of plants in Zempukuji Park as theme, three projects are being developed which tie these memories into one.
In the first of these projects “Plant viewing in Zempukuji Park”, an open participation plant-viewing tour will be held as a means of engaging the local community. In the next project “The light, color, and sound of plants” the artist will create a work reexamining the plants of Zempukuji Park. In the final project “Satchel Art”, children of Momoshi Elementary School will draw pictures on their school bags.

Encouragement of Metamorphosis

Encouraging the structural and significant changes and transformations that accompany the growth of plants and animals, the work will be developed outside using general-purpose materials, and made through the tying together of different survival skills. Attempting to build a structure comparable to those existing in the natural world, the final form will be a cocoon reflecting the process of metamorphosis of a larva to an adult.

Right To Dry

The Right To Dry movement--promoting line drying in the United States where drying machines are the norm--is a phenomenon winning attention in the West, not only advocating ecology but also many other social issues. Thinking about it, there is a tendency to consider line drying a taboo here in Japan too. My installation is an homage to Right To Dry as well as expression of nostalgia for my own laundry.

Katrin Paul is returning for the first time to Japan, after she left June 2010, to take part in Trolls and to hold a solo exhibition at Hakone Museum of Photography. .In recent years Katrin Paul’s work has been a photographic investigation into the behavior of “Black, White and Light”. Through her findings Katrin Paul started experimenting, still deeply connected to analog photographic processes, with daily materials, like salt, flour, ash and soap in connection with paper, foil and glass. With such works she either mimics natural phenomena or visualizes emotional stages, but most important, she questions our routine perception of the so-called normal and obvious.

Early Snow this Year II

Early snow this year II is not only a statement about global climate changes, but also questions our perception and expectation of what happens where, when and how. For this wood installation I intend to create snowflakes captured on vinyl. The snowflakes of course will not be created by real snow, but as a result of the crystallization of concentrated brine.
To create snow, which is not real, but created by a different, however also natural substance – inside a frame, in the wrong season – turns reality upside down. I assume that this resembles some of the contradicting phenomena people living in populated urban cities experience more often than they believe.

My work has often a craft-like appearance.
The word is also called fiddling! With fun as well as materials.
After graduation I made a number of works on location. Some cabin-like works, but also works in which repetitive structures return.
Sometimes I work at a small table making small objects or books with doodles and drawings. Usually I start to see where the ship is at sea, I sometimes think of an idea in advance. I make music at home and try it today in combination with the stop-motions that I’m mostly working on. These films will be showing in the cinema that I’m building

From The Sea

"There are many dangers viewing humans as the conquering heroes of nature, excessively manipulating and destroying it for our temporary gains” Kenji Miyazawa. Extending this quote “From The Sea” aims to engage young minds into reflecting on the complete mismanagement, depletion and reduction of biodiversity in our oceans, which is a complicated problem involving vastly different levels of society and is also only part of global food production problems intimately related to climate change, energy, population, and water. This interactive work, displaying the thoughts and ideas of local children has tangible pieces engaging the viewer, provoking collective response.

アンテイ・イロネン　Antti Ylönen

The feeling and time included in a piece of art are important for sculptor Antti Ylönen. The artworks that seem to call out for human touch compel the viewer to stop in the middle of experiencing everyday life and haste. Ylönen has been working several periods abroad, for example Spain, Turkey and India. Before 'Trolls 2011' he has worked in Japan twice, in 2002 for an AIR program at Youkobo Art Space in Tokyo and in 2003 for a commissioned sculpture project at Haramachi Concert Hall. He is also one of the founders of KulttuuriKauppila Art Center in Ii, Finland.

Touch

For some years I've been processing the theme of fingerprint in my wooden sculptures and I wanted to transfer this theme to environmental art by using some other materials. The original idea was to make my work of stones and sand, somehow to imitate Japanese stone garden, but when I saw a sakura tree without any leaves I had an idea to connect my work with it and change the material. I wanted to reach a better relationship with my fingerprint and that ‘empty’ sakura tree by using dry branches of the trees to achieve the feeling that the fallen branches have made the shape of my fingerprint.

Aska Yokoyama makes installations questioning light and space. Water,phosphorescent paint, and salt are among the diverse range of materials she uses to create a world constantly filled with light, comparable to looking up at the sky after being at the bottom of the ocean.

Dance! Kappore

Under the direction of Atabo Momokawa, the community group "Kappore.
Kappore, Yoitona" perform Kappore dance continuing from the Edo Period. Kappore consists of the five basic styles of Ise Ondo, Fukagawa, Ootsue, Yakko san, and Kappore, and one of its inherent features is the male dancers’ exaggerated and humorous use of the hands, arms, and legs creating an atmosphere of sophisticated old Edo culture. New hybrid styles such as “Momo Taro”, and “Flamenco Kappore” sung by Hisaya Morishige will also be shown.

A pantomime group consisting of Fusayo Hashimoto, Hideshiro Suzuki, and Ayano Koizumi which formed in 2010. Performing at live houses and cafes, there are many ardent fans who make it to every performance. For this event, there will be performances by two members of the group.

Open Air Theater "Life On Parade"

Open air mime theater by Fusayo Hashimoto and Hideki Suzuki, members of the pantomime group "Zempuku Trio". Through unique physical expression with sharp humor, the birth of "life" and the wonder of its nurturing will be expressed in a performance circling the upper pond of Zempukuji Park.
Enjoyable by all from small children to adults, they will also perform a collaboration work for "Trolls in the Park".
Performances will still go ahead in case of light rain.

橋本フサヨ　Fusayo Hashimoto

Fusayo Hashimoto: Pantomime Artist, accredited Momokawa-style Kappore dancer.

Studied under Shimizu Kiyoshi. Started activities as solo pantomimist in 1983
1986/87/96 Appeared as the giant spider in Ennosuke Ichikawa’s Kabuki
plays “Gohiiki Tsunagiuma” “Shitenno Kaede Edosho”
1996 A month-long solo mime performance of own work “Shitsurakuen”
in Avignon Festival in France
2009 Wrote and performed “Usemono izuru” (directed by Chon Uishin)
2010 Became an accredited master of Momokawa-style Kappore, changing
her stage name to Atabo Momokawa. Currently performs “Mime de Kappore”
to live audiences.

"Fumime" - For Children

A children's mime show by pantomime artist Fusayo Hashimoto. At the time when children from nursery schools and kindergarten schools are taking their morning walk, somewhere in Zempukuji Park a public twenty-minute mime show will be held. A rabbit wanting to do mischief will appear in the park to involve the children in "Pose, propose Battle", causing a great stir of confusion. Parents bringing their children to the park are welcome to join.

Fantastic Girl

While being involved in illustration exhibitions and t-shirt design, Naho Komoriya also participated in "Trolls in the Park 2010" (stage monument).
This year, she will be challenging herself to present a performance for the first time.

Trolls 2011:

“Forest where fairies live”

Using the Trolls in the Park concept "connecting green and urban space", she will put on a performance which creates a different view of the park. The aim is to model a space for collaboration between art and music and for exchanges between people. As the title states, a one-hour performance will be based on the image of fairies living in the forest.

ラジオぱちぱち　Radio Pachi Pachi

Mini FM radio station now celebrating its tenth year of broadcasting to the community of Zempukuji in Suginami. Their official title is "Radio Zenkita Children's Network". Besides broadcasting every second Saturday of the month, they are also involved in the making of a radio drama series, and in the organization of cultural events at zoos and art museums, and theater tours. They also take part in events held at elementary schools or buildings related to children, and take part in events held in the local community, contributing to the revitalization of the community.

Live "Golden Bat ~ Revival of the Mystery Tank"

A 3-D version of the Radio Pachi Pachi radio drama. The characters who appear in the original ongoing series "Golden Bat" (72 episodes have been broadcast on air to date), will be making another appearance after the positive reception they received last year. This year, with the theme of "regeneration and rebirth", the performance will take the form of a musical taking place at sea with the appearance of a giant robot.

Enjoy the start of the autumn season in the park with coffee, tea, and homemade sweets while listening to a live radio broadcast.
While not only providing a place of exchange between the visitors and artists participating in "Trolls in the Park", the temporary cafe will bring satisfaction by providing information for the visitors about the artwork and other events through the radio show.

Performance unit consisting of Kaoru Oka, Tsuneo Kubo, and musician Sawako Hiraiwa. Formed as a result of participating in last year's "Trolls in the Park". Primarily for children, they hold workshops and perform at nursery schools, kindergarten schools, and elementary schools. As individuals, the members have experience performing in theaters as actors or writing and performing concerts as musicians.

"A Welcoming Chair" - Song and Theater

Music theater for children by performance unit, SCAVECCHI.
Based on the picture book "A Welcoming Chair", a performance consisting of songs, music will be shown, encouraging the children in the audience to participate by singing and using their bodies. Making use of an abundance of autumn blessings such as tree branches, acorns, fallen leaves, the blowing wind and the light pouring through the trees, they will express the enjoyment of playing in the park.

Specializing in Canzone songs and Italian music of the 1600s, he directs the‘DaNemo’project which consists of three music units, and also ‘Jongleur Bon Musicien’ (a wandering group performing Medieval music) .

・Keiko Torigoe (soundscape studies/ environmental sound play and listening specialist)
Based on the theme of soundscape, Keiko Torigoe is conducting research, environmental design and conservation, workshops for art and community design.

Sound Walk in the Park 2011 – Promenade Concert Dedicated to the Trolls Pond and Forest

Why is Zempukuji pond here? How was the park formed? While walking around the pond's periphery, we will lend our ears to the murmur of the trees. Song and stories will awaken memories of the land, bringing our thoughts to the natural features of the area...
With Zempukuji resident and "master of sound play" as navigator, a "wandering musician" will sing verses in a wondrous walk that will lead the participants into a fantasy world.

Alternative Puppet Theater Gekidan☆Shiki

A puppet show always on the verge of experimentation. Supervision : Hiroko Okada. Adviser : Makoto Aida. Both are contemporary artists. Troupe members changing from project to project include fellow artists, students and housewives among others.
