A Letter to Zempukuji
What are the words you wish to send to your own town?
In this project “commonsense” local residents from children to local citizens have posted their visual message of their memories, their hopes, their concerns into a series of postboxes placed around the park. Please take your time to open up each one and share in an unique perspective of Zempukuji.
In addition to the work shown in the park every weekend dislocate will be holding workshops and participatory events at YuyuZempukujikan and in Shinmachi shopping street. For more information please take a flyer.

WORD ART[MOTOKOTOBA]BLOWS IN A WIND
Motoko Hoshi created the conceptual word art MOTOKOTOBA, a poetic typology using only four Kanji characters. The MOTOKOTOBA-method was developed in order to extend the possibilities of imagination. You may view it vertically/horizontally/diagonally, there is no fixed perspective. The order and meaning of each character depends upon the imaginative power of each who read it. You are invited here to IMAGE and FEEL the installation, in which it will become your scenery.

joy’n
The word, joy’n, is a nonce word derived from conjunction of the words‘joy’ and ‘joint’. Here Inoue presents an interactive stage for performances and workshops, the main concept of which is based upon the notion of connecting one person to another through the linking of one thing to another, such as the trees, sounds and colours, as gathered by the Trolls of the park.

The Strange Path
Yokai(Japanese Monsters) were created by our ancestors in a form of wisdom, moral teaching and humour, in order to cope with darkness. Here through an installation utilizing various trees of the park the artist seeks to share with many people, the appeal of Yokai, which hold elements able to enlighten our souls.

Instrumental in Blue
A table and chairs are wrapped in a rubber hose. A rubber hose usually only connects people’s daily lives with water in everyday situations; however, here the artist attempts to discover a means by which to connect with something beyond this.

eARTh#2011-11
Miki’s artwork uses 'fair trade' coffee bean bags and connects art & the earth = eARTh.
Through an installation of fair trade coffee bags the artist hopes visitors to the park may come to appreciate “nature” = “sensitive art”, its scenery, sound and flavor and to relax within this. Furthermore through actually sampling the fresh delicate taste of fair trade coffee it is hoped that an awareness towards fair trade may be raised and provide an opportunity to consider together the current state of Japan’s environment, social equality and transparency.
村上郁 / Kaoru Murakami
The work of Kaoru Murakami which expands with the memories of strangers, passes freely between time and space. Just as if taking a snap shot, the places of imagination and figures never met before become momentarily enwrapped within her world. Further more in this work we sense a nostalgia of a fabricated fictitious memory which is not grounded in fact.

The Creature’s Nymphaea
A story inspired by Zempukuji Park is the principal motif of this art work.
Here a lotus connotes the possibility of connecting life with death and this possibility may be linked with Frankenstein’s obsessive ambition to control life through his “Creature”. The Creature is a creation and as such holds further points in common with Benzaiten (Sarasvati: the Goddess of Eloquence, Music and Art). The life of the Creature and the story of the Lotus are here represented by an artificial flower(s) which remains in an eternal bloom through water and light.

Plant Cinema From the Green of Zempukuji Park -
Murayama here undertakes to uncover the power which derives from Zempukuji Park and the special value and appeal which reside here. Usually if we take a walk in this park, time comes to flow by slowly. This is due to the harmony found between nature within the city and human presence, the two coming to form a restful environment. However in modern times we often forget the possibilities of a close encounter with nature. Taking note of this Murayama here takes an approach to recall our inner awareness towards nature. This is not an exhibition of a completed work brought into the park from elsewhere, but consists of something which is brought into being through the park itself, something that becomes visible as we take our time in the park, and it is this form that is delicately expressed here.

Ten point of view
Paths, benches, playground equipment are all maintained in parks for ensuring ease and convenience so that anyone can enjoy spending some time there. If viewed from another perspective, however, this may in fact limit how we enjoy and spend our time in parks. Here ten swings have been provided around Zempukuji Park, so that you may find different perspectives from which to enjoy the park.

Sam Stocker, Dan Monks, Nick Carlin.
We are a collaborative group, working on an on-going project which investigates social space and communities.
We are particularly interested in how communities negotiate the ownership and use of space, how we build cities, and how we behave within them.

NOH
“NOH” is an ongoing collaborative project. We look at how we, as groups build spaces, how we occupy them. We use Noh theatre as framing device, using specific structures such as stage dimensions and story structures. In this project we have used the 6m square stage as our starting point and we are using architectural references to the housing around Zempukuji.

A giant 700kg frog made of iron has made its appearance in Zempukuji Park!
I believe that one of the duties artists perform is to visualize that which cannot be seen.
The same principle therefore may be applied to that which was once visible but is no more.
The motif of this art work is frogs.
Why frogs?
This is because they have become invisible to us.

Artist Statement
Colour interaction caused by natural energy creates situations where nature’s imprint can be expressed. Each work is closely related to the surrounding environment as pigments of colour are placed in areas where they may interact depending on movement, location or make up of colour. This is taken from how we as humans interact with nature ourselves, and how sustainability and new energy sources are becoming increasingly important. The natural beauty of each piece, either in the form of a performance piece or residual painting, connects our inner spirit with the need for energy and resource innovation.

Future of energy?
An installation of windmills confronts us with the conundrum that faces us all about how we supply energy for our ever-growing consumer needs. Does our thirst for energy outweigh the dangers? Or can the world halt its increasing greed to give nature, and natural energy a chance?

An Insurmountable Stairs
These two former classmates, who have known each other for 10 years and in this time never talked about art and have come to pursue their own separate paths, here come together, while preserving their freedom and own interest, to produce their separate works in the same space through which they become intertwined to create one single enigmatic space.
