“In a Grove”by AKUTAGAWA Ryunosuke

In a Grove is one of Akutagawa Ryunosuke’s best-known short stories. A mysterious work in which the testimonies of the characters contradict one another, it is also a classic story that gave rise to the Japanese expression yabu no naka (“in a grove”), meaning that the truth is unclear. Whether you have read it before or are encountering it for the first time, I hope you will join me in savoring a moment when, immersed in the natural surroundings of Zempukuji, we question the truth hidden in the grove and let our imaginations run free.
